    Hi all

I received a request to complete one of these in the post today. It gave me instructions how to do so online so I completed it today. I'm a wee bit anxious about the whole thing, might be irrational but I guess that's me.

    Two quick questions -

    1) Any idea why I'd have to complete one? I am employed and pay PAYE, PRSI & USC like anyone else. I thought these things were for people with additional income or self employed folk. Are they just sent out randomly?

    2) What do they do with the info & how long should I expect to wait before hearing back from them?

    Cheers all

    1) Because they've told you to! Seriously though, it could be random.

    2) They use the info to generate a balancing statement to determine whether you owe / are owed any tax. Your P21 balancing statement should be in your inbox within a working day or two.

    I applied for - and got - a P21 in March!

    Random indeed...

    Thanks

You can get more than 1 P21 per year. However, you will be unable to get another P21 for this year, until you submit the return. Also, any future refunds due would be held if the return is not submitted.

The e-Form 12 cannot be simpler. IN 99% of cases, the income from your employment, and Social Welfare is pre-populated into the form. So, if you have another income to add, or addtional tax credits to claim, that's all you need to do.

The Form "holds your hand" throughout the entire process. Shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes to do
