Straw time again, anyone use the 8 x4 square bales.
What's the difference size wise, would 2 round be same as 1 8 x 4

Speaking by volume an 8*4*3 is a tiny bit short of 2 4*4 rounds but they tend to be packed tighter so will be equal to 2, an 8*4*4 square would be about 2.5 rounds

8×4×3/4 bales of straw eat round bales of any size's lunch. Far easier to store, much faster to load/ unload and much tidier and easier to handle when it comes to using them esp. If you only need part of a bale.

Wouldn't take rounds now if I got them for free. Break your heart taking straw out of them unless have room to roll them out

Squares are easier transport, clean a field quicker and more economical to store but if your using a lot of stew with out a blower that's where it ends.

Use a fair bit of straw here for calving sheds and calves. We had a Lucas blower and were using 8*4*4's super job. Got rid of blower because the place was destroyed with dust and straw every where.

Now all round with sheds bedded daily with loader 4-6 bales 15-20 mins. With calves we roll a bale up the passage and just fork into pens and reparations for other side. This I'd done daily and I'd say no more than an hour in total if on your own.

If your not using full bales and don't have a massive area to do if go big sq.

To answer OP's question there's a little along with 2 rounds in an 8*4*4. I remember from when we were diet feeding but can't recall exact weights
