Fine Gael's myth of 'claiming' Michael Collins

FGers like to try and claim that Michael Collins was ' theirs ' as if they had ownership of his outstanding leader but let's look at some of the facts about the Big Fella and distortions about him -

    1) Michael Collins was the SINN FEIN Minister for Finance responsible for raising funds in the War of Independence, Cumann Na nGaedheal/Fine Gael didn't exist as a political party until 1923.

    2) Micheal Collins as the IRA's Director of Intelligence campaign against the DMP, RIC etc was the biggest cop killer in Irish history.

    3) Up until the day he died he was running arms to the IRA in the six counties.

    4) He had Longford unionist Sir Henry Wilson shot dead during the treaty on 22 June 1922 in London whom he believed was organizing the unionist murder gangs in the six counties.

So clearly Micheal Collins was a pretty ruthless guerrilla leader and member of Sinn Fein who hadn't the slightest hesitancy in using EVERY method available to him. Haven't the FGers and quite a few others quite a distorted view of implying he wasn't a man of violence referring to the Big Fella as " constitutionalist " in the debates on tv, radio etc ?

If you want a political Sinn Fein versus Fine Gael thread Joe you should start it on the politics section of the site.

The reality is that linking Michael Collins with either modern day Fine Gael or Sinn Fein is equally false. Its a different era with different challenges.
