Router Suggestion for UPC

Hi, I am getting terrible wifi speeds from my UPC Ubee modem. Thinking I'll put it in bridge mode and buy a new router. Was looking at the TP-Link Archer C8 or C9. Does anybody recommend these or have experience of others? Do the higher 802.11ac speeds actually work as I see there are ones that go up to 3200mbs? Thanks
