Can someone living in Ireland who has a ni car licence do the theroy and bus licence test here?

Is it as straight forward as that or will they need to change to an irish licence first and then proceed?

Trying to find the answer online and head is done in with it

Speculation on my part, but you don't need a car licence to get a bus licence. You can just start on bus CPC.

Yeah but can a uk licence have irish bus entitlements added to it?

    No, exchange and proceed.

Neither can a test be sat in NI as you have to be normally resident there.

Not according to the RSA, you need a B for the Cs and Ds.

Since you can't hold 2 EU licences the OP will need to swap the UK licence.

Licences; yes you're right. Permits; go can go mad...

@OP you can hang onto your NI licence for now and apply for a Learner Permit for D/ D1- your NI car entitlement counts as the prerequisite for bus categories here [definitely].

You can then pass the test in the bus but you will only then need to exchange your NI car licence for Irish and add the D/ D1 entitlements to it at that stage. The new Irish licence will bear the 70 notation for B&W (and any other exchangeable group 1 categories you have) indicating these were earned abroad but the D/ D1 categories won't have the 70.

Read last sentence of paragraph on top righthand side, first page

my reading of that is that you must exchange, could be totally wrong.....

If you hold a licence from another EU/EEA country and wish to apply for a learner permit in a new category you must surrender your full licence for recording purposes.

You must submit it to be registered not exchanged and it's given right back to you. It's so you don't inadvertently apply for a learner category for a full entitlement you hold abroad among other reasons :)
