I bought 3 acres a few years ago and built a house in the corner of the field and put fencing around it. I put a few horese into the rest to eat the grass early in the year and then take bales of hay off it yearly.

I was toying with the Idea of building a slatted shed something to house a few cattle over winter sort of a hobbie farmer. My father has kept a few cattle on and off through the years nothing too serious but I would need some sort of return on them.

Is it worth it ? or would you have to be into it in a big way to make it pay ? I would have acces to 20 acres or so for making silage.

    go for it--as u said it be a hobby--expensive hobby :-)
3 link slatted shed be build handly enough/money etc... but a crush/yard in also.. for handling cattle..maybe make yard big enough to store ur fodder supplies-be it bales,etc...or else do them in the field-and store there--take to yard as needed..
small returns could be made-re buying in stores(mayb bulls) winter and finish out of shed, may time!
