Bit of a gruesome find for the poor angler.

Were they definitely shot, not poisoned and dumped? However, dumped in a river, whether shot or poisoned just smacks of a level of ignorance which is indefensible.

Why would a lad go to the bother of bagging them and throwing them in a river, sure if you just left them in a ditch the local vermin wouldn't be long sorting them out, I only ever bring the crowns home the rest get left in the ditch.

Peak pigeon shooting season so presumebly shot. In any case it is illegal to poison pigeons or any other wild bird. The main point is that it was a wastefull stupid act and the offender at the very least should be prosecuted for illegal dumping like the litter louts responsible for plastic bags of rubbish being dumped in every other hedge and river in rural Ireland these days

This is going on all the time! Gobs**tes putting huge effort into bagging big numbers of birds, take their photo's, and then put no effort into processing what they shoot! Not even giving them away, no, easier to just f**k them into a river!

Agreed . It takes 8 seconds to rip out the breasts of a pigeon and that's it. Food is there. I know plenty of people who don't shoot but love pigeon and would nearly pay for a few breasts a week

Sell them to a game dealer , 2 euro a bird once they are not in rag order they will collect them off you so no excuse for throwing them in a ditch once you have large quantities,Pays for your cartridges. I bet you the pigeons that where found had all the breasts pulled out of them, i have came across that many times in woodlands , bags of pigeons flittered with the breasts removed .

Sorry my mistake ,its 40 cent per pigeon or 35 cent collected ,2 euro per rabbit head shot and venison is 2.80 per kg , i only glanced through the email and read it wrong , still 35 cent per pigeon if you have a few hundred is better in your pocket than a ditch or river.
