    H Folks,

I’m thinking of upgrading my bike.

I was wondering is there a best time of the year to buy new bikes?

Is it best to wait until the start of the year for new Models or is there another time when prices are reduced?

I'm hoping to use the bike to work scheme.

    Any info greatly appreciated.

General consensus when we've seen threads like this before is it makes little difference. There's a bit more of a market in the build-up to Christmas but you tend to find the popular models sell without significant discounts year-round. Some retailers overstock and you can see bargains when they are looking to offload surplus stock, but that can be pretty much any time during the year. You may find some retailers with last year and earlier models and these may offer a bit better value for money with little difference in spec.

Agree with Beasty. While there is a racing season, there is no real cycling season per se, with the roads busy with cyclists nearly every weekend of the year.

I would recommend deciding which models/specs etc you want to consider, then pounce when you see a deal

from a tax efficiency point of view, as there is little else to decide, the end of the year is better as this year counts as one of the years of the waiting period of the bike to work scheme. If you your employer bought on new years eve, you'ld only have to wait 4 years and a day to get a new bike on the bike to work scheme.

The shops are getting 2016 models in now, so 2015 stock should be discounted soon if not already like the Giant bikes.

Was in base2race today talking to one of the lads there and he was mentioning that the 2016 stock is starting to come in but it's a lot dearer due to euro vs dollar exchange rate.

So maybe getting something that looks like a good deal now is the way to go, be it a 2015 or earlier model.

That catches up with you next time though....

Or to put it another way - get one today or on 31 December 2015, you still have to wait until 1 January 2020 to go again, so why bother waiting?

From LBS and such it doesn't really matter.

From online retailers they MIGHT give a slight discount on this years models when next years models are released in the autumn.

The one anomaly I've found is Decathlon's website. They usually give hefty discounts in early spring.

the best time of year to buy a bike is the time of year when you'll get most use out of it.
