    Hey guys,

Just was wondering if anyone could answer this for me, for 100% clarification. I assume you do lose that payment obviously since your no longer classed as a jobseeker, but a woman told me yesterday that I would still be entitled to my 100 euros? Surely thats not right??? I was considering doing a PLC but I won't be able to support my family if I have no money coming in. Is there any different forms of support for students if this is the case? Does anybody know any other sorts of support could be afforded to me.

    Thanks, Craig

If it is a full time course you will lose your Jobseekers Allowance. Have you looked down the route of back to education allowance?

If you are not available for work you will lose JSA.

Yes you will lose JSA, but you may be entitled to back to education allowance if you've been on JSA for nine months before the course is due to start. If not, you'll probably qualify to get a student grant. There is lots of financial help out there for going back to education. I'd say make an appointment in your social welfare office and talk it over.

I have looked up the back to education allowance and I don't think I'm entitled to it. I'm 20 and have been receiving JSA for 3 months which meets the requirement, but I spent a short period of time in a third level course in 2014 which I left shortly afterwards due to personal problems, that will still count as being in formal education though sadly. Thanks for the answer.

It will only be 4 months of receiving JSA before the course starts sadly. Unless PLC's count as second level which only needs 3 months of payments, I wont be entitled to it. I think you're right, the best thing for me to do is go in and talk to them about it. Thanks a lot for the help.

If you didn't complete the previous course then you won't have that qualification just your leaving cert therefore PLC is progression. You just have to prove you didn't get qualification with a letter from the previous college. If you received a SUSI grant you won't get another yet but should be eligible for btea.

Under the new rules JSA needs to be claimed for 78 days.
