no link, from Sunday Business Post which is behind a paywall.

Wonder what a certain minority group think of thispacman.gif

A bit like AirBnB, there is no hiding these days.

That's surely a huge undertaking, and will probably see only a small return.

    Is it worth it?

I don't think there's much hassle for the minority groups here. They'd have to be reporting an income...

I am happy to see the Revenue take a proactive position, why should the majority of us suffer and have to pay higher taxes for the few who are intent on breaking the rules.

+1 to the Revenue to be honest.

Very easy to do from Revenue's side. Just compare the database of income to that of the registered car's book value. A 152 Transit and 100% Social Welfare income don't add up.

I'd say a lot of fiddlers of various social statuses have these cars registered to made up people or companies etc.

Implementing a sensible* version of the PPS number plan that was mentioned recently would make an audit of these things sensible. Until then, only people who are mostly legit will be caught out by this IMHO.

*Joe Soap selling his car on his driveway having to police it would be a joke.

Late to the party lads. This has been going on for years, with a big spike in investigations in the last 3 or so years. Most people who bought high end cars in the depths of the Recession were audited, either overtly or in the background.
