I got caught shoplifting, do police normally call or send a letter notifying people of their probation meeting date and time?

And how long does it normally take to get an appointment? I was arrested today.

What did you shoplift? First time? What age are you?

Food or Luxury items? Hopefully youll get no more than a slap on the wrist, but even more hopefully you will learn your lesson. You might get probation act if it goes to court.

    Dont do it again

I know a few back in college that were so broke that they had to shoplift food

Mind you they had plenty of money for tins so I had zero sympathy

Why would it be a probation meeting if you have no criminal record. Probation is court ordered so expect a court date first.

I presume he means an adult caution, not probation.

If you're asking about an adult caution OP, yes, you will be sent a letter giving you a date and time for a meeting at the Station.

The Adult Caution Scheme will be far more desirable to you than going to court, so hopefully you get that and learn your lesson.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.
Do you know how long the wait time is? And what happens at the meeting?

    Thanks :)

Sorry sticky fingers I'd only be guessing… but semi-educated guess would be to get word from AGS within a week or so. I think it's all very straightforward. There's no conviction recorded either so don't worry about that.

Hang on you don't get a record for going around knicking stuff? Jaysus grand deal altogether.

Anyone want to buy a PS4?

    What a joke.

In non-serious cases, the idea is to give people a second chance.

Abuse the second chance and you'll find yourself in court.

It's efficiency. Moments of madness do happen to people. Better to give them the benefit of the doubt than pointlessly adding to caseload of the District Court out of some perceived duty to humiliate.
