Did you ever look back at old threads on Boards or any other forums and remember all the old posters who were a part of the furniture back then but are no longer with us?

There are quite a few people I would have known fairly well from game forums where we used IRC years ago, and I often wondered what happened to them. A few would show up again later briefly then disappear again when they got bored or real life got in the way, and some would post a goodbye message if they were giving up on the game. But the majority were never heard from again, I remember one guy I later found out had been murdered in south africa

They shall not be moderated, as we that are left are moderated:
Trolls shall not weary them, nor the Admins condemn.
At the going down of the Server and in the Legends thread,
    We will remember them.

All I suggest is that you do some research in the legal issues forum, specifically the freeman thread.

I think threads that discuss it tend to get closed <-<... >->

I'd say the vast majority of people who close their accounts (can be for several reasons - but ultimately simply because the "Close account" button is *there* in a lot of cases) then re-register (myself included) so I don't think "Goodbye forever" when I see a closed or banned account.

What I do find strange though is those accounts belonging to people who were really regular posters, then suddenly stopped completely - and the accounts are still open years on. People might say that they just decided to stop posting all of a sudden, and - shock horror! - people can stop using Boards etc, and perhaps so... but I think it seems strange that a person would just go from posting a few times a day nearly every day, to just nothing literally overnight, and never again. It would make sense all right if their posting decreased gradually and then stopped eventually (which does happen) and obviously it's no biggie if they rarely ever posted anyway, or if they took a lengthy break from Boards and came back (has also happened). But to see an account that's open, with the last post, following very regular other posts, being three years ago - in the middle of a thread discussion, and then nothing since... that's a bit weird. It does make me wonder whether something has happened to them. Hopefully it's been a sudden life-changing event that's positive in a lot of those cases.
But while I know a person can completely give up posting to Boards ( :pac:) I find it hard to believe a person would just stop completely forever in the middle of being a very regular poster over a prolonged period. I guess it's not impossible though. And maybe some of them quit posting publicly but stay posting to private forums. Or they might just open another account, which isn't permitted but people can get around it I suppose.

One poster was going through a very bad time following the death of one of his parents, but he posted regularly still... and then nothing, and that was years ago at this stage. Account still open - but no replies to PM's/visitor messages to him subsequently. Can't help thinking the worst there.

There have been regularly contributing members to this site who have died, and people knew them, and the message is passed on to the Boards community - but I guess there's bound to be others who have died but people didn't know them...

I kind of liked Degsy - so right wing he was just funny.

A couple of months back he was in the prison forum looking to come back, but it wasn't to be.

Certain names mentioned on this thread - 'tis plain as day that they're still here with different accounts. ;)

    Not Starbelgrade though, unfortunately.

There's a lot of posters I've got on really well with but have since left. They've probably reregged, but I've no idea who they are now and I do miss them.

Did anyone ever discover what Biggins actually did? I remember he used to namedrop people he met throughout his life -- I believe he mentioned having the cast of Star Trek: Voyager at his wedding. Or something.

There were a few posters like Biggins and Run To Da Hills who were self parody comedy gold who should not have been banned IMO. You need a few nutters around the town for people to point at.

OK. I'm going to go against the grain here and admit.. I really didn't get what was funny about facekicker? He just had one crappy post a few years ago and the site went crazy over it. I mean.. why?

Yeah, I did find it hilarious briefly, but it's worn extremely thin by now.

OK. Here is a post where he mentions his wedding - it doesn't mention Voyager, but I'm almost certain he posted about it somewhere else. That's about as far as I'm willing to search!
Was during a 3 day television conference and a quite few heads that we knew from TV/film attended.
It involved everyone spending a whole wedding day spending a full day and night in an amusement park.
No long wedding speeches, no sit down traditional meals, no fuss over presents on the day.
Just TV conference, wedding (including Buffy, Star Trek, Terminator, and Angel TV series characters to mention a few!), quick bite to eat for all, down to a massive amusement park, spend the day there, then went to a pub for a another quick meal and drink, back to the conference, back to the amusement park again, quick change of clothing and then to a disco with all involved with the conference and the wedding!
Approx about 4,000 people partying away on our wedding night!

Hey, you ain't that lazy at all ;)

It was pretty damned easy when, in the search, you set the forum as After Hours, the user as Biggins, and the keyword as wedding. Thankfully he didn't talk about weddings too much :pac:

Wonder what happened though? Biggins was an enigma around here for a while. His constant namedropping and vagueness about it when questioned was weird.

It's sad when you know a boardsie had died. There was one Galway poster, who I believe many others would know, called JIZZLORD - I knew of him, but nowhere near as strong as others did. Shortly after he died, a few users in Galway came together to have a beers in his honour, in which everyone wore Bermuda shirts, because that's what he wore to most beers, I believe.

    Edit:

JIZZLORD was from Sligo, not Galway.

I kept trying to get answers from him on a regular basis, but he never once budged.

Mod: unfortunately these threads skirt the rules and then break the rules. We can't have people guessing about reregs (banned or otherwise). Cheers,
