I read an article today that few people have a will made, apparently its a pain in the hole for your family if you dont have one made, can you make one yourself? Who would you leave it to? Do your cats get a share at all??

Please see the following service provided by the DSPCA in relation to will making, all they ask is that you leave them €500. They will draft and register the will in association with a solicitor firm, the solicitor firm will also store the will if you so wish:

They won't have to. No will, then it goes to next of kin.

    And you might HATE THEM!!

I will give your dog a good home after you're gone. I promise to spend the money exclusively on the dog.

Its an unholy mess if you don't. Particularly if your estate is made up of assets rather than cash.

Used pornography is probably very low on the list of things people want be left by someone.

But a friend to remove your hidden stash when dead is paramount, before your partner or parents find it.

Not as such but if I die a particular person will get a tidy sum (pension+multiples of my salary). That might be life assurance actually, not sure!

It makes things much more difficult having assets where there is no will. If parties to the estate don't agree that is.

I understand the reasons it'd make things more difficult. If anyone that would be entitled to what I leave behind (hopefully fvck all, if I've timed things right) wants to argue amongst themselves like a pack of hyenas over a half devoured gazelle corpse, then they deserve any amount of difficulty they experience. Good enough for them, I say. Let that be their price.

    :D

this actually motivates me to amass currency as i reckon it'll be awesome (course i'll be dead but hopefully people will cry)

Anybody with young kids should have a will made to ensure provision is made for trust funds and education until the children reach maturity.

Mine does them free - he says he'll get paid at the other end of the transaction when the probate etc is done. My wife and I have amended our wills 4 times as our, and our family's, circumstances have changed over the years.

Definately have wills. Anyone who has dependent kids should have wills and life insurance. I couldn't sleep without the knowledge that Little Kiwi would be well provided for if we were not here to provide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,059 ✭✭✭✭Spanish Eyes

Bottom line is... make a will and leave it as you wish. (if you are married a certain % should be left to spouse or they can claim it anyway).

    OR....

Don't make a will, and it will go according to the Succession Act, and the beneficaries may NOT be those you want to leave it to at all!

Your choice. But I want every bit of my estate to go to those whom I love, and loved me back, certain charities, and so on.

Of course if I marry after making my will, I have to do another. But for now I know where it will go. And that gives me an aaaaah, breathe... feeling.

    It's what I want.

This also extends if someone is in a position of having an an adult dependant . In fact I think that scenario, although not so common, is a really difficult one
