Ice cream is for life, not just for summer.

    I would love a 99.

    I would love a 99.

I got 99 problems and the fact that a 99 costs about 2 euro is one.

I have to take some of the blame on this one.
Normally I would keep an icecream van in business on my own. (Used to work in one but got sacked for dipping in to the stock- but that is a different story)

However, this year I have been chomping those Lidl packs of 9 ice cream bars. 3 covered in white chocolate, 3 in normal chocolate and 3 covered in normal chocolate and some nutty stuff.
They are bloody gorgeous and reasonably priced. Have not had a cone all year.

I don't think it's just the crappy summer. People are eating a lot healthier now. I walked in to the office with a 99 during one lunch time and I got comments like

"That is just soo bad for you"
"you realise that like pure fat"
"I'm so jealous but it would ruin my paleo diet"

Got a large 99 in Tayto Park at the weekend for €2.50.

It was definitely large, but no sauce/hundreds and thousands and only one small piece of Flake.

Stick to the crisps Mr. Tayto.

This is definitely not an awful summer.

2007 is rained for 33 consecutive days between June and July. That was ****.

    This is grand.

Thinking about it...a few crisps crumbled and sprinkled on the ice cream cone could be very nice.
    *Business idea*!

It's not simply the rain alone, although rainfall has been above average. It's been particularly cold and gloomy.

    http://www.independent.ie/breaking-news/irish-news/met-eireann-reports-one-of-the-coldest-wettest-and-windiest-summers-on-record-31429448.html
Met Eireann's review of July showed it to be cold, wet and windy everywhere with Claremorris, Co Mayo, the coldest since 1965 while Cork Airport, Johnstown Castle, Co Wexford, Mullingar, Co Westmeath and Shannon Airport all reporting their coldest July since 1988.

Nevermind it raining last week. Sure isn't sunny now!

Ice cream wafer cones need to come in more shapes, sizes and colours.....maybe even edible glitter or LED lights. The current design is functional but boring.

Everything is better with LED lights.

Also, I'd eat ice cream every day if they replaced whipped vanilla with whipped blue ice cream!

    Stupid vanilla

And the wind. Don't forget all the wind.

Why was the ice cream cone sad?

Cos he mam was a wafer so long.

    :D

    Not sorry.

the ice cream cone business is in meltdown.
Ice cream van owners are under severe financial pressure.
One was even found dead on the floor of his van, with sprinkles and hundreds and thousands all over him, syrup on his head and a flake up his nose.
    Gardai say he topped himself...

Our company has been keeping a fully stocked freezer with hundreds of different ice creams all summer. What a great time to discover I'm lactose intolerant.

yep, the anti-sugar movement could also have something to do with it.

Wafers should come in bigger sizes. Tough to make a ham and cheese sambo with wafers. They are delish and much healthier than white bread (although I can't prove that).

    I'd settle for a 69

My brother in law got charged 8 euros for two 99's (or would that be one 198 ) in an irish town. When queried he was told it was the "tourist price".

I won't name the town, but it may be the one with the dolphin attached.

The Italian ice cream places on Grafton Street and Henry Street seem to have queues outside mostly. Baskin Robins in Cineworld same story. I suspect, partially at least, that this company suddenly not doing so well, may be down to the fact that those cones and wafers just aren't as popular as the what the competition is offering these days.

    I suspect you're right.

I'd much prefer a scoopy ice cream in a waffle cone, than a whippy one in one of those papery cones.

This has been a fairly miserable summer all right. Even its been windy and rainy, or muggy and humid with not a huge amount of sunshine.

edit - them ice cones you get from packets are rotten, taste like plastic. Lovely proper wafer cones are dearer, but taste a thousand times better. Plus you can usually get a whole tub of ben and Jerry's for 3.50 in one supermarket or another.
