Hello all, just looking for an answer to a query i have. I am looking to build on our farm in a couple of years but I would be looking too make a new entrance from the road to a Greenfield site. currently there is just a ditch. If I want to make a new entrance /gap do the council charge a fee for this? I'm in Limerick county. Thanks for any replies

Apply for planning with a site plan showing entrance.
    Get planning approved.
Pay council fee (due regardless of you use existing entrance).

I am also building in Limerick and had to pay 2900 contribution.

Either way you are saying I will have to pay a fee to use an existing entrance to the site or to make a new entrance to the site. Why I'm asking is if I take some of the ditch now a few years away from planning application will i be able to avoid paying the fee

I don't think that will make any difference to the fee you pay. Also taking away the ditch now might even need planning (I think it depends on the width of the road or something, perhaps someone can clarify?).

    Where in limerick you building?

Making a new entrance onto a public road generally requires planning. There would be no additional development contributions due for opening the entrance when you apply for planning for your house so there is no benefit in doing it beforehand
