Wood Flooring and matching

My husband went out today and bought a wooden floor for our bedroom. The problem is it is 5 times the price of the floor I was going to buy and absolutely gorgeous. Considering 75% of the floor is covered by our bed and the baby cot I just can't bring myself to use it there.

We're now planning to use it in the sitting room. The current floor is there 10 years and is slightly damaged but it is the same floor as the hallway. Would it look ridiculous to have a different wood floor in the hallway and sitting room? At the moment the floors run from one to the other, I was thinking a saddle board or something might break it up? What do you think?

The other issue is that the floor is beech, to match the beech fire surround. The floor he bought is a grey oak style one. So I think I will have to do something about the fire surround but I'm not sure what.

Suggestions appreciated. Walls are deep blue behind fire and creamy/grey on the other three walls.
