Hi all. Wondering if anyone knows how much it costs to get the lights on the dash switched off. The engine light comes on constantly on th 11 megane if mine but have the nxt on wed and don't think they will pass it with it on.
I had it looked at last week from the garage where I bought it and nothing to be worried about, but I'm living in galway and that's down in tipp.

    Is it diesel or petrol?
If diesel will fail NCT due to enginge light.
If petrol light won't affect result of the NCT.

Just pop to any garage with diagnostics equipment and have it checked what is the problem which causes light to come on.

It's diesel. Wondering if this is expensive to get switched off because if it is I can just get garage where I bought it done for free but won't be before nct so do I let it fail and rebook or fork out for diagnostics.

The light is coming on because there is a fault recorded, if the fault is not corrected then the light will come back on soon after you have it reset. Did the garage actually scan the fault to figure out what it was?

You would imagine they would have at least reset it if it were nothing to worry about. Just sounds to me like they fobbed you off and let you on your merry way. If there is a warranty with the car I would expect them to diagnose and fix the fault.

I'd say NCT retest will be the cheapest option.
Even finding a garage to connect diagnostics equipment and find out what is the problem will cost more, not mentioning fixing it.
Possibly they can reset the error which causes light to come on, but if issue is not fixed light will return sooner or later (possibly before retest) and it will still cost you more.

You might try as well to find someone from your friends who has ELM327 bluetooth interface and diagnose and try to reset the error yourself using android phone, but you need to have ELM327 or someone who has it.

I'd say in this circumstances your best option is to put it through NCT and let it fail, and have it fixed for free in garage you mentioned. Then just pay 28.5 for retest. This will come the cheapest.

The engine light comes on for a lot of various things on them newer megane some are minor enough. However the only way to properly permanently have the light off is find the fault fix it and reset the light. Just resetting the light is only a temporary hiding the problem fix its not a solution and it's a fierce bad attitude to have on such a new car surly it's worth spending the money on to get it properly fixed.

But OP will get it properly fixed for free from garage he got the car.
He just can't make it before NCT so he is looking for temporary solution.

Another option which I have no clue if it'll work or not is to unplug the battery for 10 minutes and see - maybe it will reset.
Worked for me in Citroen C5. Light disappeared and didn't appear since - car was used every day for a month.

Car went through nct with lights on dash but failed in a parking light gone. So not too bad. Easy fix. Bit annoying though

The priorities should really be why the light is on the dash.
You only bought the car, it shouldn't have an EML on.
