Lads I was looking at a 2nd hand Brno 17 hmr today and it had a metal ring on the barrell half way between action and stock fore end. I forgot to check was it a 452/455 etc. has any one come across this before ?

Was it the remains of the rear sight base after someone took the sight leaf off?

It's like a washer snug around the barrel about 3mm long
