Temporary Lines

Hi all. I'm putting together an event in the coming weeks and will need internet to the site. I've checked and Fibre is available to the site but I don't really want to sign a 12 month contract for something I'll only use for two weeks. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a temporary Eircom line or if there are other providers that do offer a temporary service?

Call their business services. Large events can get them, but expect a premium tariff.

Depending on where you are, some of the better wireless providers might be useful too.

For example, if it's an event in the middle of a park or a field, eircom wireline services will be very, very expensive where as something like Digiweb Metro or Nova Broadband in Cork might not be too bad.

They'll all have retail packages with caps but, they've business packages that are quite a lot more expensive but usually uncapped.

The advantage is you just need a antenna on a pole or a building.

If you're in a building and there is telephone wiring in place or near by eircom is a good option.

If you're in a city or town covered by UPC and you think there might be cable near by get onto UPC business too.

Also if it's an even maybe see if you can get one of the ISPs to sponsor the broadband to bring the price down?

No harm in asking and offering to put up some branding...

Depending on the event audience it might be an attractive proposition for some of the ISPs.

There's also at least one company that does wifi for events - just Google around.
