I'd like to get the timing belt changed on my Ford Focus (2006 1.4 petrol).
The replacement interval for the timing belt is 8 years / 160,000 km. There are 145,000 km on the clock, but since the car is over 8 years old, I need to change the timing belt before something bad happens.

I've got a quote of €450 from my local Ford dealership.
I asked if it included replacing the water pump. They said no.

    Is €450 quite high?
And also, should the water pump (or anything else) be replaced?

    Thanks.

€450 without the water pump seems very steep to me.

That is expensive - Try a decent independent garage (Not Advance).

Also, on this engine the timing belt does not drive the water pump.

So there would be no need to get the water pump replaced?
Would I need to get anything else replaced along with the timing belt?

    Thanks.

Hmm, I've the same car. 06 Focus 1.4.
I've only 77km on the clock though.
Do you think I should get the timing belt replaced as well?

Timing belts are made of rubber so perish over time as well as mileage.

For timing belt kit and auxiliary drive belt about €250 in an independent garage. Allow for slightly more if your car has A/C as they have an extra drive belt to change.

While it is necessary to remove the timing belt to change the water pump, the pump is driven off the auxiliary belt and is generally reliable so we don't usually change them with the timing belt unless requested specifically to do so by the customer.

    Hi ,
I own a 2005 1.4 and I would agree to get it replaced and to ensure that both ancillary belts are changed at the same time.
My fan belt snapped about 2 months ago and before the battery charge light came on the belt had gone inside the crank shaft pulley and inside the timing pulley causing the whole lot to slip. These engines are interference so all 16 valves were bent.
I was getting mad quotes and told to scrap car but in the end I repaired / replaced all valves myself.
The timing belt was 45 euro genuine ford. The fan belt and AC belt came in a kit with a tool to fit as they are the stretchy type at a price of 80 euro.
I didn't change the pump as was free with no play.
My car as above is 2005 with 131k on the clock . The timing belt condition was pretty good when removed but was due a change. But the true cause of my failure was the fan belt so ensure these are changed also. On another note 450 euro is day like robbery in my opinion as it's not that bad of a job. Also ask that the crank shaft bolt is replaced as it should be every time the pulley is removed. These pulleys don't have a key as normal , they are just torqued up . Sorry about long post but that's just my experience of ford 1.4 zetec engine.
    Regards
    Jon
