Have a half acre of weeds at back of sheep shed and now I want grass in it for ewes and lambs next spring. Just wondering what do I need to do to get grass instead of weeds, I know it has to be sown down but I'm new to the game so don't know the full procedure. Thanks for your help (note: never had grass before only weeds)

Spray the weeds with round up to kill em,
once the have died back cut them out and plough or rotovate the ground,
spread your grass seed with your fertiliser spreader,
    Roll to compact and cover,
Spray with a post emergence spray after a few weeks to kill off any new weeds

Give it approx 5 weeks (unless there is an almighty groth spurt) then spray for weeds then ten days after you could graze. Check the guidance on the post emergence spray for how long you need to leave it until grazing. Also would be no harm to shake a bag of gran lime after rotavator and bag 10-10-20 after sowing.

Ring up your local teagasc and ask an advisor to come out. He'll do a soil test and break it down for you then when the results come back. He'll be able to advise you too on what to do.
If your a client of course
