Made permanent - looking for new car

    Hi folks,

I recently (and finally) became permanent in my job. As a result, I feel I am in a position to buy a new car. I so significant mileage each week for work, and my petrol 06 Megane, while a lovely car to drive, is costing too much to run.

Can anyone recommend a reliable car(s) that I could research and shop about for? Willing to spend approx 8-12,000, and would love something within 2010-2013 range, although this is flexible.

If you liked the megane you could get a newer mk3 megane. I have a 2011 one 1.5dci Diesel engine is fairly economical and they are very reliable compared to the older ones. You'd buy one for around 10k euro for a 2011 ish year. They are very comfortable and a reasonable spec from dynamique up.

Any of the diesel vws of that era are good too but are more pricey especially the likes of a golf.

You could buy a megane or then again you might actually get yourself a bit of a life and buy something with a little pazazz!

Being told to 'get a life' by someone who says 'pazazz'...

Public servant travelling for work? Remember that a 1.5 litre car gets around 75 cent per mile while a 1.6 litre gets around 95 cent per mile.

The CC based system is probably changing soon but for now, something like a 1.6 TDi Octavia gets a better rate than a 1.5 DCi Megane with both cars being very economical on fuel.
