Petrol estate

We're after a replacement for her aging punto.

We do very low miles (approx 10-12k km a year), and are a one car household, so practicality wise, am seriously considering estates. Aesthetic wise, I personally kinda prefer the looks of them over saloons

So anyway, Ive come across a 1.2TSI (110bhp) octavia estate. Its a 2010, with pretty low mileage - and its looking like a very strong contender. Felt pretty good on the test drive too

Any thoughts on it? Little worried about it being overburdened, and potential turbo issues during our ownership

Or other suggestions? Very limited when its comes to petrol estates sadly. Budget approx 15k-20k.

Octy is well under budget, so could just keep some cash in reserve for any turbo issues down the line

    1.2? You sure it wasn't a Fabia?

    This too shall pass.

Octavia is available in 1.2 TSi.

If Irish motor taxation system was normal, I would propose something like that:
    Mazda ^

But considering you'd have to fork out over 2.5k VRT and another 1.2k every year on motortax, it's hardly worth it.

Even though those downsized engines are actually quite a bit more powerful than the 1.4 and 1.6 litre petrol engines that were the norm in that size of car until 2008, I think a 1.2 in a big estate car (the Octavia might be in the Golf class of car but it's much bigger) is a bad idea. I'd go for the 1.4 TSI, or else a diesel. Are you sure you need an estate? An Octavia hatchback has a massive boot and is very practical and a 1.2 would be OK as long as it's the more powerful 105 PS version.

Yea I was happy enough with quick test run around the local industrial estate. Didnt find it lacking imo. Will give it a run on a motorway to see how we get on - half considering bringin a couple of extra bodies along - just to laden up the car hah

The normal octavia was plenty big alright, but would prefer an estate for aesthetic reasons really. Be interesting to know if theres much of a weight diff between the two? Dealer did mention they're due a 131 1.2 octy in a couple of weeks, but I think it was the lower powered one (86?)

The estate is the 105 PS version alright
