Hi all, just updated my Asus laptop to windows 10, and my touchpad is not working, I know this is a common problem but can anybody tell me how to fix it in layman's terms!! I don't speak tech! Many thanks!

    Try this:

    Go to
    1. Start (Windows Button)
    2. Settings
    3. Devices
    4. Mouse & Touchpad
    5. Scroll down to Related Settings and click "Additional mouse options"
    6. When the mouse properties window pops up, click on the ELAN tab
    7. Click your device and click "Enable".

Hey Frosty Jim, I got as far as step 5, and the mouse icon popped up at the tool bar on the bottom of the screen, how do I scroll down to it! I'm hopeless! Thanks for the help

Without a mouse try pressing tab until it highlights options further down the page.

Not overly familiar with that particular laptop but if you press on the start button and type touchpad, you should find the mouse and touchpad settings have a root around in there. Something may be switched off.

Try a restart also, I know it sounds silly but it fixes more than you'd think!

Half an hour ago I got a popup telling me that the Asus SmartGesture driver was being updated. I checked Windows Update, and it showed that "ASUS driver update for Asus Support Device" had just been installed, and that I should reboot.

I rebooted, and my touchpad still worked, but I now used the ASUS SmartGesture panel to tweak the settings, instead of the ELAN panel that Windows Update installed last week.

My touchpad was turning off about 30 seconds after booting each time. The Elan icon in the taskbar showing red. Mine is a 2 in 1 so I just used the touchscreen to re enable it. When it kept happening I deleted the ELAN program and its worked fire ever since.
