May I ask if this leg length difference was causing you problems on the bike or were you even aware of it before the fitting ?

Yes to both, and I wanted it confirmed by a professional, if the problem was just lower leg I would be able to use shims but as it is my femur that is the problem the only solution is using a shorter lenght crank on the drive side.

Interesting.. how did he diagnose the difference in leg length? AFAIK the only sure way is via an MRI scan.

MRI is not the only way, you can find out from measuring lenghts from specific points of body with a tailors tape (http://www.medifoot.co.uk/articles/measuring-leg-length-discrepancy) or you can have a dexi scan, also when you get a bike fit done with senor points it will show up during the pedal stroke, also another sure way of finding out is having your pedal stroke stop at the 3 o clock and then dropping a plumb line down from knee, on my left leg it spilt the spindal thru the midddle were on my right side it was way behind it.

I always knew one leg was longer than the other as there was too many signs, but i needed to know wether it was lower leg or upper leg and as it is a femur problem this why I need shorter crank on drive side, this isnt a rare thing to happen and the vast majority of people would have a slight diff in leg lenght, mine just happens to effect me bigtime,

I think sheldon brown cautioned against different crank length, didn't he say to add spacers under the cleat on the shorter leg
