Citroen C4 1.6 Hdi 5 speed manual gearbox oil leak

    Hi my sister's C4 Hatch,1.6 Hdi, 2012 with 180,000km has a gearbox oil leak.

It appears to be coming from the output oil seal where the passenger side drive shaft comes out of the box. There is a steady weep of oil there.

    Questions are:

If I replace the seal, is it likely that this will resolve the issue or is it wear in the gearbox causing the shaft to move out of round? There does not seem to be excessive play at the shaft.

Where is the gearbox level plug so I know that I have replenished the oil level correctly?

Does anybody know the size of the seal so I can buy it in advance from the factors or from Abbey Seals please?

    Thanks for the help.

Apart from this the car drives sweet as a nut.

    Richard

The seal will solve your issues. Very few aftermarket available though, its best to buy from the main dealer.

Gearbox filler is on the passenger side of the box, 20mm bolt iirc on the end of the casing. Only genuine oil should be used to top up, nothing from a motorfactors.

for the price not worth putting anything other than a genuine seal in it,

    New seal fitted.

    Genuine from Citroen dealer.

They did not sell gearbox oil so motor factor provided that.

    Thanks

The Citroen dealer would definitely provide gearbox oil, these boxes are incredibly sensitive to the oil they use and I suggest you drain it and put back in the right stuff
