Should I give up hope on my art course?

I applied for Visual Communication at DIT this year. I got my results a few weeks back and got 300/600 which isn't great. To be considered for the course i'll need to get at least 310 in my Leaving which I think I should get.

However will they actually offer a place to someone who only got 300 in the portfolio? I've been on some posts and recently saw that some people have already been offered places.

Will they give a place to someone with 300 points in the portfolio? Has anyone ever got in with that?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
