We're one of those houses who got letters from Irish water saying they had found lead pipes and so I am wondering would any of you have a very rough estimate of what it might cost to get lead pipes replaced in a 3 bed semi detatched house ? Newspapers were saying about 5000 euro - is this about right ?

Are there any ways to get it cheaper ? Can we keep the existing lead pipes for things like washing / toilet , and just replace the pipe going into the property and go from it to the drinking water tap ? Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Can the job of replacing lead pipes be done over several years or does such a job all need to be done in 1 go ?

It completely depends on what is above the lead pipe both inside and outside of the property.
If there is nothing but concrete then the cost would be more than say if was just soft ground / garden etc.
If you are sure that you have lead piping, then I would advise getting seperate quotes from at least three reputable companies first before doing anything.

IW have made a disgraceful mess of this.
The problem with this is that unfounded fear will allow every class of scumbag to start quoting for this business, adding zeros to the price as if there is no tomorrow
It will be worse than applying for grants.

If I were the OP I would look for quotes on the basis that the pressure is low and the LA told you its because you ur pipes are blocked with hard water

OP the ground will have to be dug from the meter to wherever the stop cock is in the house under the sink so hard to tell unless u give some idea of ground and distance
