Dublin Airport - Another one bites the dust...

So.... this asshole has been ICEing the Dublin Airport rapid since lunchtime yesterday:

It's not the first time either. Out of curiosity I've been recording reg numbers of ICEing vehicle. This guy parked in that exact marked and signposted rapid bay at least three times for multiple days. Given I'm driving a vehicle with CCS I can only charge in that bay because the cable will not stretch to the second bay.

I know clamping is not ideal as it leaves the bay blocked... but its the only tool we have at the moment. Last night, the manager at the Topaz called the clampers and I called them too... but they failed to show up to clamp the vehicle.
The PoS 4x4 was still there tonight so I resolved to stay there until a clamp was on that wheel. I called NCPS every half hour for three hours from 21:30 until 23:30. No result.

At 23:45 I spotted an NCPS van going through the car park of the mcdonalds next door and flagged him down. He had never got any call about the vehicle and the call center had not entered the reg into their system despite being given the reg by both myself and the manager of the Topaz. Nice bloke, logged the call himself and clamped the 4x4 anyway!

Years ago, I saw a car in Crete, the windscreen of which was almost covered in warning stickers which had obviously been applied over a long period of time. The guy in question worked in the airport and did not give a sh!t where he parked. I don't know how he could see anything when he drove.

    What foes ICEing mean?

It's quite possible that whoever it is actually parks there while away on holidays or whatever. The Topaz is surrounded by staff car parks, is unlikely to be someone who works there. You should contact the airport police and the daa and report it to them too as it may well be a security issue to have any car abandoned like that.

Parking an internal combustion engine vehicle in a manner that blocks access to an electric vehicle charger. SI 325/2014 allows clamping of vehicles who are not charging but are parked in marked EV charging only bays on the public street. Clamping is allowed for chargers on private land even in unmarked bays.

Particularly problematic is parking in front of rapid chargers like this one (which are 15-20 minute chargers that are our equivalent of petrol pumps). In my case I use the CCS connector on my car and this is the last charger until the other side of Newry.

Imagine there was only one diesel pump on the M1 between Dublin and Newry. Now imagine that everyone had 10 liter fuel tanks and needed to fuel up to make that journey. Now imagine some asshole decided to save on airport parking and parked in front of that solitary diesel pump and flew off for their long weekend.
That's pretty much exactly the situation.

Excellent Cros, I admire your determination, I bet this Idiot will think twice next time !

The location of that DC charger is ridiculous !

I see absolutely no reason it couldn't have been in the Airport, ridiculous !

cros13... some dedication you have shown here... fair play to you!
I am all for giant sticky!!! stickers on the windscreens. Will talk to one of my suppliers to see what would be the cost of printing a bunch of them. Would anyone help with a design I could forward ?

    I think it's around €80.

Should make them think twice but that is an awful location for a DC charger !

Wouldn't towing actually be better than clamping?

The feckers are still blocking the point if they are clamped.

And 3 hours, which is a solid effort from yourself cros, after days of parking, is a stupid amount of time for a car to be parked in a fast charge spot. How fast do they move an unattended vehicle out of set down?

Consistent Enforcement. Otherwise people just take the piss.

Probably impounding would be better, you're right, they're still taking up the charger !

Why be ICEd when you can be picniced?

This evening at the only fast charger in Waterford.

That's nuts ! did you say it to them? I ca;t understand why Waterford has only 1 fast charger ?

I was there twice. In a rush to the physio the first time, and even though I went into the shop to grab something it just didn't cross my mind. They were closed the second.
So I didn't say it to anyone. I certainly will the next time I'm down.

It's odd that there's only the one. Wexford has three. That said one of those is a dealership and Waterford Nissan don't sell the Leaf. If they did the garage is only a km or so from the one photographed as well.

It's not that well used by the looks of the meters on it. 300kWh on the CCS and 3200kWh on the Chademo (if I'm reading them correctly that is).

Yes. And the law allows for it. But it's easier to get the vehicles clamped than towed, and better to have visible enforcement than none at all.

It's a bit difficult to reach for CCS vehicles. No CCS at all on the M9 so it would be local traffic or someone going via Cork.

No CCS from Waterford to Naas, this is ridiculous.

I don't understand why the ESB didn't put the DC charger in Castledermot, it's only 2 KM from the Motorway V Carlow about 10K just mental, then you've to go the whole way through Carlow out by the College to get back on, could service people going to Tullow/Wexford and Portlaoise.

There are 3 ChaDeMo from Waterford to Naas, including Naas. This is one major thing that turned me off the I3, the CCS coverage is a huge let down but I know ChaDeMo has been out a lot longer, no reason the can't install triple headed units beside the single ChaDeMo in the busier locations. We need multiple chargers now at this stage.
