Mayo Drone Activity

Spotted a couple of drone's in the Ballina area. One on the Killala road two weeks ago and another down at the college this evening.

The latter had serious range and height. Looked like it was snooping on houses along the Sligo road. It did cross the river at the playground and back again towards college and as far as Supervalu.

Definitely an expensive hobby and I guess the camera on it has serious power to see where its going and look at the scenery.

    Anybody experience of drones?

Have you spotted other drones around Mayo? Are they an invasion of privacy?

It sounds like a swarm of bees. Is a bit eerie.

I've heard that some local authorities may consider using them for planning and environmental inspections.

Drones are considered like model aircraft. The Irish Aviation Authority have rules on their website, link is (iaa.ie/RPAS) and a list of all people commercially licensed to use drones.

Came across this here on youtube and it gives you a completely different view of the area! Splendid view of Murphys mills.

I have no connection to this guy btw.

There was some drone reviews in the Indo recently and it didn't refer to any rules or registration details.

A drone under 1.5kg is considered as a rc model but it will probably change in the future....the hobby isn't that expensive - under a grand will get you started....
