Looking for a hardtaill fir the young lad.
Something with 20" wheels I'd say.
Even recommendations of what kids hardtaill to be looking out for would be great.
    Marty.

    Yes 20" then

My advice (i have 4 kids 😉) buy something decent. I'd suggest a Specialized Hotrock 20, you should pick up a half decent one 2nd hand.

Raleigh mustang.. Had one of them myself years ago, had 26" wheels... It wasn't a hardtaill either ... Don't think frog do hardtaill either. He has an isla bike already he needs something with a front suspension for trails. Isla do one in a 24 which is too big and too expensive.
Something like a hot rock 20 by spec, or a kona shred would be ideal.

I wouldnt get hung up on front suspension. I've yet to come across a kids bike where the so-called 'suspension' fork becomes anything other than a rigid after a few months
Those suspension forks do nothing except add weight to already heavy bikes. More of an issue with the 24" wheel bikes If you can afford it buy another Isla - your kids will learn more skill anyway riding with a rigid fork

What about a Boardman Sport/e MTB. €375 full price but someone with an AXA card could pick it up for €340. Islas are great but have become very expensive. I bought a 24" wheel MTB last year on Adverts for €15, a pretty generic BSO and just made it rideable. It has a triple on the front and some big overdrive gears on the back, and it's absolutely more than adequate around Ballyhoura for what my 10year old can throw at it. All in it stands me €50 and he has gotten great use out of it.

I agree with you to an extent however I was following him around ballyhoura and his small front wheel on the Isla was being rattled around. I know myself I could do without a front suspension and do perfectlty ok in ballyhoura but on such small wheels the bumps are much more noticeable. His hands were giving in before his legs, he also did some of the trails in bikeparireland and he definitely needs a front suspension for those.
He's still too small for a 24 so the Isla creig isn't an option. (Plus it's nearly 1k!)
I'm keeping my eye out for a hot rock 20".. Saw one today and it has a nice adjustable sun tour front fork...he can hold onto the Isla for non off road stuff if I manage to pick one up.

Also saw a ridgeback 20... Lovely little bike.
    Marty.
