A garda negotiator is at the scene of a stand-off in Castle Street in Tralee town centre in which a woman who is thought to have a number of knives is refusing to leave a Halal meat shop.

Castle St Tralee remains sealed off as stand off between gardai and armed woman in shop enters third hour. Negotiations continuing.

It is understood the woman, who is understood to be from Cork and in her early 30s, entered the shop at around 4pm. It is not clear what exactly took place, but staff left the shop. There is now no other civilian in the shop.

    Source: Irish Examiner

Hopefully everyone comes out safe in this. Thankfully no hostages involved.

Corkonians. When do we say enough is enough when it comes to them and their antics?

Is the armed response unit not a bit much for one woman with knifes in a meat shop??

Have they got electric down in Cork? Surely they'll nab her when the candles in the shop blow out.

What would you propose? A couple of lads wearing stab vests try to restrain the poor frail little thing by holding her wrists?

Read the first post , go on read it and then tell us which part of Cork Tralee is in.

This could be a disturbing sign of things to come. I saw a leaked map from strategic planning in Cork County Council that had Kerry labelled as "North-West Cork" along with policies of assimilation and re-education. An Anschluss if you will.

Just been released that she was annoyed because the lotto has increased in price and they've added two numbers.

She was supposed to go into the newsagents next door but it was closed and there was a "back in 10 mins" sign which made her even more annoyed.

Kinda reminds me of Michael Douglas in falling down.

No, they (the negotiators) stood at the door and just talked to her for a few hours, the ARU were out of sight

I'd assume, as in any similar scenario, that's somewhat up to her...

How hard would it be to overcome a woman with a knife, given the cops have at least basic combat training?

As of today, Tralee has eight new Gardaí, five of them fresh from Templemore.

Extremely, unless you consider a certain number of police casualties acceptable. Knives are extremely difficult to deal with, and the best option is to run like fcuk. No such thing as basic training to deal with them.

Why should the police expose themselves to danger unnecessarily because some clown had a knife?

In a knife fight, the basic assumption you make is you will get cut-fcuk that if you can avoid it. I'm not suggesting they just shoot her, but hell if someone goes for a guard with a knife they really don't get any sympathy

Eh... what? You have a woman already wielding one knife, in a shop full of more knives, and you want the guards to go in unarmed??

There tends to be a somewhat understandable, global police view of jot doing these things by halves.....

Out if curiosity, at what point do you think the ARU should get involved?

Sure why bother trying to diffuse a situation where no one is in immediate danger, when you can charge in and put multiple people in danger. Better for the cameras.

They have to go in armed. There's a 50/50 chance that she'll kill them all ;)

Can someone tell me whether she is white or Black, Catholic or Muslim, Irish or Foreign, and what value her house is - and is she a looker?

If the Daily Mail has taught me anything it is that I can't form an opinion of her without knowing these facts.

She is a Corkonian, thus a worshipper of Cork. As long as they're let have their delusions, generally they're not a menace. Now and again an event occurs known as a "double" however, in which case they become a major hazard.

They lured her out with a rasher sandwich.

    She's a shi'te muslim.

Should have never opened the borders. Inundated with scum from that territory every summer. They're dangerous, we don't know what sorts are coming in.

I'm sure there are good people from Cork, I'm sure there is. But we must realise there are fanatics, dangerous ones who are amongst those good ones.
