    Hi Boys,
Does anyone know a company that will ship a caribou head (mounted) from the US to Ireland at reasonable cost? and does anyone know what paperwork etc to expect both sides? The Caribou was shot in Quebec and brought to Ohio for mounting but we've hit kind of a wall now probably to do with the dentist and the lion

    Cheers

What are the sizes of the box/crate. I would try UPS first. If it is mature racked caribou, you're probably going to have to crate it and find a freight company that will send by sea.

I had a friend that need over a dozen large boxes shipped from the States to Eire that ran €500. If you would like the company's name, pm me and I will search the auld emails.

As for the US, not much, Ireland is another kettle of fish. I have brought a few hides in to the States and all they were concerned with was that there was nothing living left on the pelt. Have a look here at what TSA has to say about trophies.

Won't make a bit of difference.

Has the taxidermy man given you a size and weight quote? Are they giving you any hassle?

    Cheers for the reply,

The size of the crate is 30 x 30 x 36 inches and the weight is 30Kg (i think) we got a quote from a company (that was irish) but they sent us a break down of all the costs but won't give a final price and when we ask them about air mail it was about E800 ish and then they stopped emailing!! UPS want an amount you are shipping every month and haven't replied to emails I didnt try dhl and USPS won't ship it as it is too big.

    Cheers

I wonder if that could actually come home with someone on a plane?

You would be hit with the oversize case fee, but it could be cheaper overall. Do you know anyone coming over from the States?

It's a total mess to legally import trophies into the EU from the US now.

The US is considered a Third Country

    Details here:

    http://www.agriculture.gov.ie/media/migration/agri-foodindustry/animalby-products/importsofanimalsanimalproducts/informationnotesonimportofanimalby-products/Game_Trophies.doc

    Imports from Third Countries

    Documentation

Treated game trophies from birds and ungulates, being solely bones, horns, hooves, claws, teeth, hides or skins, must be accompanied by a health certificate that conforms to the model set out in Chapter 6(A) of Annex X (Commission Regulation 668/2004 page 46).

For game trophies of birds and ungulates consisting of entire anatomical parts, not having been treated in any way, the health certificate accompanying the consignment must conform to the Chapter 6(B) of Annex X (Commission Regulation 668/2004 page 48).

    Approved Country

Treated game trophies from birds and ungulates, being solely bones, horns, hooves, claws, antlers, teeth, hides or skins may only be imported from a third country listed in Part XV (A) of Annex (X).

For game trophies of birds and ungulates consisting of entire anatomical parts, not having been treated in any way, import should only be from countries appearing on the lists set out in:
    • Chapter XV (B) (third countries in the annex to Commission Decision 94/85/EC from which Member States authorise the imports of fresh poultrymeat and also from Greenland and Tunisia.
    • Chapter XV (C) (third countries in Part I of Annex II to Commission Decision 79/542/EC as appropriate)

    Transportation

The vehicle/container, carton or other packaging must be identified by a label indicating:
    • The category of material from which the product was derived
    • The words “FOR TAXIDERMY PURPOSES ONLY”
Treated game trophies must be packaged, immediately after treatment, without being in contact other products of animal origin likely to contaminate them, in individual transparent and closed packages so as to avoid any subsequent contamination and must be transported directly from the point of entry to the destination point.

    Border Inspection Control Requirement

Importation must be through an EU Approved Border Inspection Post (BIP) and at least 24 hours notice of intent to import must be given to the approved (BIP) at which it is intended to import of game trophies into the EU by means of a fully completed part 1 of the Common Veterinary Entry Document (CVED), (Annex III Commission Regulation (EC) No 136/2004) Photocopied versions will not be accepted. Forms are available on request from:
