Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

TEFL in the Anglosphere

    Hello all.

I have recently become an ELT teacher. I am CELTA qualified. At the moment, I'm working a short term contract in Ireland but would like to secure something long term.

I know that in Ireland, it is hard to get full time teaching and thus I am wondering about other countries in the Anglosphere. Does anybody know which country has the highest demand for teachers? Failing that, does anybody know where in Ireland I am most likely to get full time work.

Do other countries in the Anglosphere even bother hiring teachers from outside their own contry. I have an other half who is a bit of a home bird and feels the culture shock of a new country and language might be a bit too much for her. :o

I would say you are best trying your luck in Ireland....there are some job opportunities in Dublin.....I certainly wouldn't uproot yourself and go to another Anglosphere country in the hope of finding teaching work.....There might be somewhat of a demand in the likes of London, but it is highly competitive there (people with DELTAs etc) and hard to live on a TEFL wage.....A lot of Asians travel to NZ and Oz to learn English, but that is a long way to go on the off-chance of finding work.

Have you applied in Dublin? I have seen a number of jobs advertised on www.jobs.ie over the last few weeks.

I'll keep an eye out! I think at some point, I would like to teach abroad but at the moment I'm just working on getting some experience. I appreciate the reply.
