Do I need a foundation for a porch door?

I'm putting a porch door on the front door of my house. I'm going to use the existing canopy as its in good shape and is maintenance free. There is no step into the front door as it is from the existing driveway. Do I need to lay a foundation for the door? I want to have a half-brick affect on each side of the porch doors also.

Doorframes are usually supported at the sides so you need a stable structure to side fix onto. So possibly steel posts taken down to there own concrete foundation pads, which can be sized to take the brick facings also.

You may also have to put some insulation in the roof of the canopy now as its effective internal.
