We need wasps. They are a valuable part of the eco system.

I got stung on the inside of my mouth last week. I was having a beer in a friends garden and the little fecker climbed into the bottle. The stinger looked like a pigmies blowdart.

If the sting stayed in you, it was a bee, not a wasp.
Wasps can just keep on stinging, the evil b*stards!

It was a wasp. Its stinger got torn off with a chunk of its tail before I spat it out.

Yep, they're back too. There's one living in my porch that looks like a Sumatran tiger with eight legs. I can only guess his Web is made of diamond filament to support his weight. And he looks right at me every time I open my front door, I hate when they are so big you can see their eyes follow you around.

I haven't seen one. I saw some bumble bees alright, which was good to see.

I am already getting ready for the influx of arachnids though. Killing any smalls ones I see before they mature and getting rid of webs around the windows.

    Hate the bastards.

My cats take an obscene amount of pleasure in killing any & all spiders. They particularly like to slowly dismember the huge ones, they keep them going for a couple of days usually.

Although the other day, one of the feckers (cat) jumped up on the sofa and more or less spat out a still alive, huge and VERY pissed off spider at me. Ran for my life so I did.

As a bee keeper, I hate them too. I've been keeping an eye on a weak nuc hive I have in fear that they will invade. But people need to know that we do need wasps as well.

Ah, it's time again for that most wonderful of household tips: half-fill a jar with water and smear jam on the rim. The buggers are attracted by it, gorge themselves, and eventually fall in - do they get drunk on the sugar or something? I don't know, but by golly it works!

Each time you see one drop down and start kicking around in the water is a moment of pure pleasure!

When I saw "it's that time of year again" my first thought somehow went to the rose of tralee...a sure sign that summer is ending.

Aldi had those electric, tennis racket, swotters a couple of weeks back, I bought 4.

I had one years ago that I got abroad and it was good for shocking people but the Aldi ones have a safety feature so this wont happen, only noticed afterwards.
