Advice welcome on recontracting with UPC

I've been on the same deal with UPC for almost 4 years for broadband and TV and I notice that much better deals are available "for new and returning customers". What's my best way to proceed? I don't have a problem being without the service for a while. If I just cancel, how long before they'll let me avail of one of these deals? Or, if I tell them I propose to cancel, will they offer me the deal for a new 18 month contract?

There was a similar question to the UPC reps on their forum a few months ago, IIRC it's 6 months after cancelling to be regarded as a new customer.

Eventually, of course, but I was looking for some advice on how to play it when I do.

    But thanks for your help.

Or you just order it in another name.

    If possible, of course.

What you do is you call them and ask what you asked here.

If the babe on the phone says no, threaten to cancel your account, and/or ask for loyalty/retentions department.
Then you get a better deal.

Thanks for the suggestions. I called them and said I wanted to cancel because I felt I wasn't getting value. They switched me to the "loyalty Department" where they offered two months rfee, and then offered six months half price. Still not good enough so I've cancelled and will start afresh on a better deal.
