Tenerife - Costa Adeje

Myself and the OH are planning to go on holidays mid-September, and Tenerife seems ideal, in particular Costa Adeje as we're not looking for mad nights out but the option to go and have a few drinks in a lively bar if we feel like it! Also the location in relation to waterparks and other activities in the area seems great.

What is a reasonable amount to pay for a week to 10 days away in this resort? Assuming self catering, near the beach? I can't seem to find a decent package (i.e. accommodation that's walking distance to beach and decent reviews on Trip Advisor) for less than around €650 pp. Don't mind paying it but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something or being robbed, as the last number of years we got a decent holiday for around the €450-€500 mark in places such as Lanzarote and the Algarve.

Is it just that Tenerife is more expensive? I didn't see much cheaper than that in places like Los Cristianos or Playa de las Americas either. It seems to be the flights driving most of it as they're working out at around €300-€400 each, they don't seem to have regular flights going out to Tenerife South.

Any tips on where to stay would be appreciated too :)

Tenerife is an amazing place. I'd actually recommend you get a car and stay away from the standard resorts. There are hidden beaches everywhere where you can literally be on your own in the high season. Its cheap to eat out all over the island and its a great place to go exploring and get lost, if that is your thing.

Tenerife South is the main international airport and is serviced direct by Ryan Air and Aer Lingus. Its about an hours drive from the capital of Santa Cruz and about ~40 mins from Las Americas. Flights are not every day but they are common enough. The northern airport is only serviced by internal flights between the islands and Spain.

We stayed in Costa Adeje last summer and we would return tomorrow if we could! We had a fab time! We stayed in Sunset Harbour Club which was recommended to us by a workmate of my hubbie - said workmate actually returned this year for another stay! Not the cheapest place to stay but we really enjoyed it. That part of Tenerife isn't the cheapest, if you want cheaper there's Playa de las Americas or Los Cristianos. We got a taxi to and from the airport, wasn't that dear as there is motorway near enough all the way. Nice selection of bars and restaurants nearby. Walking distance along the coast to Playa de las Americas for a ramble. So near to the water park - advising to get there before the rides open at 10 to get a sun lounger and to be read to go. Also we did a day trip to Mt Teide and a go in the cable car.

Thanks both - looking like a winner to go to Tenerife so! I really don't mind paying a bit extra if you really get what you pay for, just wanted to make sure that €650 each didn't seem like mad money to spend for around 8 or 9 days for flights and accomodation?

€650, all in, is very cheap for that length of time. I generally say €100 per day is a realistic estimate anywhere in the world outside of peak times.
