Have a nissan primastar, started over heating, took a couple of days got into regular mechanic. Was a good time as I was going on holidays. Long and short of it, injector broke, conrod needed (no idea what that is) and some other stuff, he had to strip engine as kept finding other things wrong and is saying either get engine reconditioned or get another one in.

after reading up here, I rang iviengines in ballymount and Im looking at 3500 euro to get a replacement one in. yikes. Paid 6k for the van about 6 months ago. about 180km on clock now.

Other option is to get my own one reconditioned but problem is I cant find anyone to do it, dan daly in dunshaughlin is so busy Im looking at 8 weeks plus before they can even take a look. theres a place in glasnevin that are on holidays.

Am in dublin. Anyone know anywhere else that reconditions engines so I can even get a price?

I presume its a 2.0 dci m9r? Second hand maybe an option if you can find a low mileage engine from a decent scrapyard. A good engine won't be cheap though.

Primastar's, Renault Traffic's and Opel Vivaro's ( all basically the same van rebadged) very common problem.....

Cloverhill Autos in clondalkin would be worth a call to as owner is experienced Renault trained mechanic who is very used to these...He'll give you honest opinion on what best to do..... Lots of dublin taxi drivers who drive these as minibuses go there.

yeah, found a second hand one on partfinder for 2100 but thats without fitting or warranty.
When totalled up Im going to be over 3k anyway I think. So comparing that to the reconditioned one fitted with a warranty for 3.5k. decisions, decisions...

edit: will give cloverhill a call, thanks

What did you ever do? I've a car gone for reconditioning today. Got stung buying private. I should have known the price was too good to be true.
