2nd hand Dacia Duster's....

Having recently took redundancy at work and come into a nice few quid, I am looking at helping my old man out to get a new car.
He has driven vans all his life (work reasons), currently owns an 04 Nissan Primastar hes had from new, which is quite frankly a wreck and it amazes me its even roadworthy!
He's more or less given up work recently for health reasons and so no longer really needs a van, but he likes to be a bit higher up, and have a bit of room for some tools etc in case he does a few jobs here and there. He is a huge fan of the Duster (I always rib him about poor taste in cars :pac: (he loved the Chrysler PT Cruiser for fecks sake :p) but I agree with him on this, I think the Duster is a very nice motor) and it seems to fit the bill for him.

He wouldn't have much to chip in himself, maybe a couple of k for the van scrapage (whoever gives that is mad!) and a couple on top possibly.
So Im thinking I could top that up to 10k. Would that get me a decent 2nd hand Duster? Donedeal doesn't leave me hopeful on that score:confused:
If I can get one at that price, what should I look out for? And if not, would anyone like to suggest an alternative, bearing in mind his needs which I've outlined above?
Hes not well off, so needs something thats fairly cheap to run (tax, diesel most likely?, he wouldn't drive big distances), reliable, and a bit 'van like'.
    Cheers in advance.

That step away Sandero might be worth looking at. A petrol version might give him less grief in the long term due to short journeys and its that little bit higher.

Personally I'd look a couple of years older at a petrol Quashqai or something.

cheers for the advice. Would that quashqai be as cheap to tax/run? I am not a fan of it myself, its a bit 'girly' imho, but it will be his choice and I wouldn't be influencing him, only funding it haha.

How about a Hyundai ix35 / Kia Sportage? Seem to be very popular cars for older men

second hand Sante Fee ?? would be a lot more manly than the other options & physically bigger

Cheapest Duster is asking €13500 on carzone, there are also no petrol models for sale second hand. Qashqai and Duster share some dna through Renault ownership so running costs will be similar. Qashqai is a bit more expensive than an equivalent Duster and that reflects in the fit and finish too.

Don't the older Dacia's have terrible rust issues? I think it has been sorted now but any second hand ones may be at risk to it.

Should have been a bit clearer, max budget would be 10k.
I doubt any of those would be found at that price?

You were perfectly clear about your budget :)

Those cars start from about €25k, so I thought a 5/6 year old would be available within budget? Didn't check any sites though, so could be wrong there.

Interesting. Seems good value to me, but Im no expert.
Don't like the looks myself, but as I say, it will be the old man's choice, and knowing his taste, he would probably love that haha
