Wales v Ireland, why not BBC NI?

I know it's being discussed on other threads, but is there any contractual reason why the RWC warm-up isn't being shown in all BBC regions?

Odd. Is there any Irish broadcaster showing it?

No, BBC Wales is the only stations covering it as far as I can see. I thought TV3 might have had coverage seen as they are covering the RWC2015 but looks like they don't have this warmup game anyway

TV3 are hopeless. BBC One Wales will do just fine.

RTE, but only highlights at 8;00pm. Ryle Nugent gave the excuse that this was done for "consistency" purposes (Sky have the rights to the other three games) and because they weren't sure of the kick off times. Complete nonsense on both fronts. Either they balked at the price the WRU were looking for live rights, or they felt that because it was August there's probably be too many holidays in RTE disrupted by running a live show. (I am perhaps being more cynical than usual in this regard, but this is the station which massively cuts its live news output every August).

As for BBC NI, I dunno what their excuse is. Zero production costs, nothing major in the network schedule in the way. All they'd need to do is buy the rights. That's why I suspect it may have been the WRU that was the issue here.

BBC Wales is the exclusive rights holder. Sky have the rights for the other 3. RTE or Tv3 didn't bid for Ireland.

For those not on free satellite, Filmon.com offers legal and free streaming of BBC Wales.

rather they not be discussed here - illegally streaming FTA channels is still illegally streaming

Re BBC Wales, they are the same legal entity as BBC Northern Ireland (the British Broadcasting Corporation). If, as you maintain, they have UK wide rights then BBC Northern Ireland have no excuse whatsoever for not showing the game as they would also have the rights. However I would imagine that the rights they have are either Wales-only rights or stipulate that they can only be shown on BBC Wales. Otherwise it would be shown not just by Northern Ireland but by Network too.

It's more than likely on the red button on BBC1 NI .. as well as the other BBC regions.

Unfortunately its not. Final Score is instead. Red button is not regionalised but networked so NI receives same as rest of UK network.

If you have sky you can get BBC wales by tuning in the channel though the "other channels" option.

Here in NI BBC1 Wales HD is 952 on Sky.

Not available to Freeview or Virgin Media customers though, contrary to assertions made in the Irish Times today. So many NI viewers will also be out of luck.

This would suggest Virgin Media do offer all of the national BBC 1 regions in the 800's

Apologies - that is indeed the case.

Freesat has BBC 1 Wales HD at 976 and SD at 964 - that is whatever the region selected.

That article from the IT is really confusing to read.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/rugby/international/wales-v-ireland-rwc-warm-up-will-not-be-broadcast-live-to-irish-viewers-1.2306554

First of all it says it isn't available to Irish viewers; then afterwards it includes the technically savvy part where it says you can manually tune it in on satellite devices (not mentioning Sky btw) in the lower end of the article.

Also if people have another UHF aerial pointed from Ireland to Wales you can get the match via Freeview in Wales can you not?

Is mentioning an app streams FTA channels? I'll say nothing if you'd rather me not, but I'm sure this app has been recommended in the Android app threads.

I wouldn't have mentioned it whatsover if it was illegal*.

But I get that you dont want to have that discussion here. I only mentioned it as an alternative for those who do not have a satellite dish. I wasnt aware that BBC Wales is receivable on cable here. Is it ?

*Notwithstanding the fact that said FTA station is already freely available in ROI, Section 73 of the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 allows cable operators to carry the main PSB channels without permission and in 2011, the High Court agreed that the Internet was cable for this purpose. Until Section 73 is removed from the UK legislation it is legal to use these sites.

It is 964 (SD) or 976 (HD) on Freesat whatever postcode you use.

Edit 976 is HD - see my original post above.
