    morning all.

Just got the following text from the department.

"DAFM: NPH on your farm to end June 415.You must be below 170 at year end to avoid a penalty."

Never got one of these before.
Always under the 170 for the last few year's.
Have less stock than this time last year. Sold cattle in February & lambs last week. Is it a average over the year. Is anyone else as high as this. Just wondering what I should do

Thanks in advance for any advice

Maybe check the website to make sure all info on your profile is correct, could be a mistake. Would hardly be that high you'd have a serious amount of fert bought if that was the case

Yeah it seems very high for the info you gave. Talk to your advisor if you have one or check Ag food. Got mine too this morning. Comfortably under with derogation.

415 sounds extremely high, got text saying mines 83 and has to be below 250 (in derogation) got fined the last two years for being over

what is the fine for being slightly over eg.172
I think it is serious to go over 250
farmer dan is probably missing some parcel from area aid or some parcel is being queried by dept.

Under 170 for the 12 months

    What's the fine?

I was around 205 or so the last two years, I ant remember how it's calculated it might be to do with value of sfp, first year over €300 fine I think, if you go over it again the following year it either doubles or triples the first fine, I can't quite remember tbh

Ours is at 111 so far, limit is 170 for 12 months, you can get a derogation to go from 170 to 250 limit but that form must be in before end of may requires soil test every couple of years and fert plan to be submitted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,326 ✭✭✭Farmer Pudsey

This is a standard text warning you to be below 170 as you have not applied for Nitrates derogation. I have one and was warned about 250 limit but when I check on Agfood I am at 93 until the end of June '15. I also checked on ICBF and if stocking levels remain the same will hit 191 kgs N.

cull older cattle-If doing it before Wednesday should save you 3 months or 21kgs Total spread over your hectares. if you still have them after Wednesday you will only have two months nitrogen saved.

I got one and when I checked it out in ag food it appears that some genius in the department only used 10% of my hectares for the calculation and got 623/h the right figure is around 60/h. Who do I contact to get it corrected?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 748 ✭✭✭valtra2

    How is this calculated

Divide nitrogen by hectares. They also use stock numbers, slurry also meal I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 748 ✭✭✭valtra2

How do they find out your nitrogen.and meal

They get it off co op, suppliers, I presume.

Its organic nitrogen that the text refers too.

Its livestock units devided by eligable hectares.

Just saw that on department website, so does that mean you can spread as much artificial N as you want?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,193 ✭✭✭alps

This refers ONLY to the nitrogen loading from the livestock on your herd profile for the period Jan 1st to end of august. It has absolutely nothing to do with nitrogen fert use or feed used. They only have these figures when you declare them.
This figure is to give you an indication where you may end up at the end of the year and weather you are likely to exceed your 170 or 250 limit. To get the likely yearly figure...take this figure , divide by 8 and multiply by 12.
This will not be exact, but will give you an indication on where you are heading without making any alterations.

Yes, we already figured that out. Do you have any contact number so that I can get them to correct their mistake?

0539163400...Nitrates Section Johnston Castle, normally helpful, when you can get an answer.

I contacted them and they said the reference area had two different areas and they had to use the lower of the two even though my application for this year shows the full area.

Anyone renting slurry storage? How much would be a fair price.

So what are all the options if youre going to be over

Rent slurry storage - I will have enough storage for winter its the **** the produced out on grass for the summer/autum that has me over

Export slurry? how do you get a lad to do this for you and how much does it cost?

Rent in extra ground - this might be best as I could do with some extra aftergrass anyways but would be ok without anyways
What sort of price per acre and if he has maps in already for SFP can ya still do this
    Also cost for this??

Reducing stock not option for another 6-8 weeks so cant go that way
