    Hi

Writing this on behalf of my sister. She returned to live in Ireland a week ago after living in the US for 10 years. Any insurance company she rings will not quote her or either they are very expensive. Is there a insurance company for people returning home. She has a full Irish licence.

    Thanks

No NCB bonus which for alot of companies is 50%+

    Not alot can be done.

There is no "returning" companies. As far as they are concerned she's Irish with no ncb - expensive.
What car is this for, make and model?

Some companies will take her bonus from the usa. Best bet is to ring a good brokers. Allianz and aviva have taken bonuses from outside of the eu for customers of mine in the past.

This problem was raised on the Livelahn a few weeks back. It's not just the US it applies to by all accounts and it's just another way of hitting the hard pressed motorist again. Not a lot that can be done AFAIK.

For future ref, if they head back to the states for a few years it might be worth buying the cheapest car they can find and insuring it 3rd party while their away. A few lads from the place I work regularly go to the states for extended periods and do this,, saves them loosing their no claims after 2 years of non use.

Also to echo, when the companies hear 'The States', its driving on the other side of the road and hence an additional load if you let them away with it. They tried it on with me before and I pushed hard back. Check if they are specifically loading for this.

That's half the issue there. Insurance companies here have "issues" with older cars and as that's 15 years old it'll be bumping up the premium accordingly.

Get something <10 years old if you can and try a few brokers.
