Married outside the State to a non-Irish national and resident

    Situation is

I was married in 2012 (March)

I currently own a property in Glasgow

I work in a shipping co and spend 190+ days per annum in Ireland working so pay all my taxes as a PAYE employee

My wife is Scottish and is a full time employee in Glasgow

After we got married in 2012, I gave my employer a copy of my Marriage Certificate around about the same time I received a wage increase in work and to be honest I never really checked my payslips

I have been offered a new job and am trying to work out my take home pay to see if it is feasible to accept the offer
Working out my salary and wage etc it seems I am being taxed as a single person

The difference in my current employment being taxed as a single person (as per ie.thesalarycalculator.co.uk) is EUR 131.00 per month compared to being taxed as married single income or married two incomes

The difference in the salary offered on the new employment being taxed as a single person (as per ie.thesalarycalculator.co.uk) is EUR 239.00 per month compared to being taxed as married single income or married two incomes

Any idea what exactly I should be paying? Has my current employer calculated my take home salary incorrectly? or considering that my wife resides full time outside the State mean I can only ever pay PAYE as a single person?

We have two children 11 and 3 and I claim no benefits in Ireland - my wife receives Tax Credits and Childrens Allowance in Scotland for them

    Any ideas

It is not possible to say how much tax you should be paying when you have not told us your joint annual salary and other incomes.

If your spouse has income then you are not entitled to the married persons credit and increased standard rate band.
