Quill Stem Adaptors

Bought a beater from the Guards auction for €40, knowing it needed some work. I want to change the handle bars, shifters and breaks to a more comfortable set I have from a Giant Rapid. Thing is, it is a quill stem.
I was toying about going the full Montague, and changing the the headset, but this bike is not worth the time or money. Then I came across Quill Stem Adaptors. Anyone have any experience of these???? Any pit falls I should be aware of or is it just a straight swap?

Used a few, no problems. Adds a bit of extra weight but that's about the only down side I can think of. It's basically just the bottom half of a quill stem with a fat head to clam a modern stem to.

You'll need to take the bolt out of it to put the stem cap on though.
