HA! I am from the area and only got back this morning at 1am. Was in Cheshire Oaks on Monday. What kind of stuff do you like? How long are you there? How old the kids?

So you have adults free for a day or so, into culture and shopping?

Ok. Fancy shopping is Liverpool One, in the heart of Liverpool or Cheshire Oaks, the biggest discount outlet in Europe. Cheshire Oaks is just off the M53 motorway at Ellesmere Port (my hometown), driveable in about half an hour.

If you want culture and the Beatles, check out the Albert Dock. Lots of little places and in the basement is the Beatles museum.

On the Saturday evening, go for a walk down Mathew Street, home of the Cavern Club. Cilla Black (RIP), started off as a cloakroom girl there. Of course the Beatles played there many times. Its an authentic recreation of the original Cavern Club which was next door. Warning. Saturday night is absolutely mental. People everywhere, but a superb atmosphere. I love the place but may not be suitable for older folks.

Mersey Ferries run on a triangular route over the river but do tourist specials in an ellipse with commentary of what you can see. Well worth a go but wrap up warm.

For a bit more culture, take a spin out to Another Place, the artist Anthony Gormley cast statues of himself and they are mounted on a beach just outside Liverpool

Well, that enough to start you off. I have linked most of those places for you to follow easily, any questions, just ask. Where are you staying?

You could take the senic route from Holyhead to Liverpool.

Head to LLANFAIR PG it has the longest town name in the world Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll-llantysiliogogogoch is the actual name then head over the Menai Bridge on the A5 its quiet a stunning view. Then head up to Conway Castle.

You mentioned a theme park you should check out knowsley safari park http://www.knowsleysafariexperience.co.uk/ one of the most amazing things you could ever do. Lions and all sorts of Animals come right up to the window of your car.

The trip along the top of Wales is pretty.
A detour up through LLanberris to Capel Currig and back down the Ogwen valley is nice going or coming from the ferry.

Chester is a really pretty city centre, all white and black timber beams in a 2 level shopping area.

If it's shopping you're after tip on a bit further to the Trafford Centre in Manchester, it's massive bring gps.

I was in Knowsley safari park on Sunday. There is a car route through the baboon enclosure where they can climb on your car. They also go mad sometimes and damage them.

Chester is a lovely historic city, worth a walk around. Its another 15 mins past Cheshire Oaks, straight down the M53.

In Ellesmere Port there is a Canal-Boat Museum. In times gone by it was the centre of the canal network in the UK. Back up the M53/A41 is a village called Port Sunlight. Once upon a time Lord and Lady Lever had a soap factory. They built housing and facilities for their workers. Ever heard of them? Think Lever / Lever Brs /Unilever. Sunlight soap (Port Sunlight), Persil. I could go on and on. There is a visitor centre.

Look up visitliverpool.com or icliverpool. Loads of info

PandO do direct sailings to Liverpool from dublin if your bringing a car . Dinner and tea included with the ticket .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,070 ✭✭✭ScouseMouse

Direct sailing with free grub -YES.

8 or 9 hours sitting on a trucker boat - NO No facilities and dead boring. Unless you get the overnight with a cabin but you will really pay for it.

Oh, and you miss the beauty of Wales on your drive up.

There is a dury free a bar a cinema and TV on board . More comfortable reclining seats too. I Can't say I noticed much difference to the hollyhead route I'd rather relax on the ferry than drive up to Liverpool from hollyhead . Each to their own

Thats fair comment. I used to be a monthly traveller on norfolkline. Always night sailing asleep. What you say is correct but if you want the scenery of N Wales, why sit on a boat for 7+ hours.
