credit card scams

Two new credit card scams I heard about recently, just warning people to be aware & spread the word etc.

The first one is this: you are in your hotel room and receive a call from someone saying that they are ringing from reception, and that there had been a problem processing your credit card details when you were booking your room.. and could you give out the information again over the phone and they would re-process it at the desk.

Of course this is just someone ringing in from outside the hotel pretending to be reception.

The second scam: you receive a phone call from someone pretending to be from a courier company, and that there is a delivery for you but the carriage cost is short by €5 (for example) and if you pay the remaining carriage cost over the phone with your card, then they can deliver it to your address.

The courier company that the caller says they are calling from, has recently been inundated with calls about this scam. There was someone from the company interviewed on the radio last week.
