MTB on a turbo?

Is it ok to mount a mountain bike on a turbo? I never liked the idea of a turbo even for a couple of months during the winter. But the weather is so bad this summer I'm seriously thinking about it. Having the MTB mounted would leave the road bike free for spins, in mediocre conditions! Thanks in advance.

Shouldn't be an issue, but don't use MTB tyres.

There's no law against it, if that helps?

As long as you can get the wheel to fit, not sure how comfortable riding a MTB on a turbo would be though.

I use my hybrid on the turbo. It's only a cheap turbo with very little resistance. The lower tyre pressure gives me higher resistance so I found it good for hill training.

I do it, but I had to get a special tyre, I was using an old racing ralph which had gone pretty much bald, pumped up to 70psi, it got this black rubber crap everywhere, which was the remains of the tread lugs having been shaven off completely

I use a 29er on the turbo, as I prefer flat bar shifters for turbo sessions than road bike shifters. Had to get a 26 inch wheel to fit, and a slick tyre. Only advice is to put a mat or something underneath and up behind to catch all the rubber that gets spat out.

I use one on my trainers as well with a set of Schwalbe slicks and no issues with excess rubber on the floor, have them pumped to 90 psi.

Do any of you that use your MTB on the turbo use them with bolt through axles or only with the normal QR's? Thinking of getting a turbo for the winter but my CX bike has a 142x12 rear end and not sure if there are any turbo's that'll fit? From what I see they all use a proprietry QR spindle that replaces the one on your 135mm standard axle.

You can get turbo tyres for 26"

You can get a rim drive turbo trainer so the tyre wouldn't matter. The Minoura ones are pretty good. The resistance is applied by rollers to the rim of the wheel rather than the tyre. Ideal for mtb's.
