Someone gave me a 01 Freelander 1.8 petrol. I know they have a reputation for HGF. I was thinking of bringing it to an indie for a full checkup. Should I have the HG replaced now before it goes?

You really just need to keep a careful eye on the coolant level. Get it checked out to make sure that there isn't a HG leak but there isn't much point doing the HG unless it's needed

I'd just sell it now and buy something else. Save you hassle in the long run. They're the most unreliable heap of crap on the road. Had the misfortune of driving one once, terrible ball of dung.
