I understand how it generally works.

What I'm unsure of will it bring smells into the house - say for example the local farmer is spreading slurry?
We live close to a composting business which sometimes gives off a slight smell that I'd rather not have in the house

well it does take the air from the outside, so technically it does, if theres outside smells. It would be the same with an open window or 'hole in the wall' vents.

however i would argue that it would reduce the impact of these smells due to the filters that the air pass through, and due to the fact that the intake is located in one specific place only, and not throughout the envelop like windows and vents.

Could you fit a charcoal filter to the intake vent or would this effect the air flow ??

I'll ask whichever supplier/installer we choose if this is possible. If it needs to be done at start or can be fitted in future if needed.

    Hi,

    Same position here....
Q1.if one person smokes in a room...theoretical the smell/smoke will be "pushed" in all rooms !?
Q2.if is a "smelly" condition in a bathroom...I can assume that it will be "broadcasted" and shared across the whole house !?
Q3.can an air ioniser can be adapted to the one of the vents !?

    Thanks

no, the exhaust air never actually physically touches the incoming air..... all incoming air is fresh and all stale air to exhausted to the external

imagine a box of straws where half are drawing in while the other half are pushing out

Take it rooms are inlets and bathrooms extractors so if there's a smell in bathroom it's extracted out and the air (smell) doesn't mix with the incoming fresh air from the inlet only the heat is transferred through the heat exchanger.

    Yes...Thanks to both.
Never "tought" about the internal heat exchange system.
